That’s a Wrap on APSCON 2024

Our team attended the Airborne Public Safety Convention (APSCON) in Houston, Texas, which kicked off on July 29. In just two and a half days, we conducted over 50 demos—and that’s not counting the 20 additional demos we managed to fit in the day before the convention floor opened to meet demand. Our exhibit was arguably the busiest in the hall, among over a hundred booths—a lively scene where we engaged in conversations with enthusiastic police aviation units and attendees.

A few days into the event, we presented the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) with an award recognizing their partnership and contributions to improving and modernizing law enforcement pilot training. Kevin Gallagher, Chief Pilot of the LAPD Air Support Division, was there to accept the award.

For background, the LAPD recently joined forces with us, purchasing a full-motion H125 VR simulator to to increase their access to high-quality, tailored training with real-world scenarios, such as inadvertent IMC conditions, and car and foot chases in LA.

The LAPD’s collaboration with us will shape the future of law enforcement pilot training nationwide. Kevin and his team have worked closely with us to develop a foundational, simulator-centric training coursetailored to the LAPD’s needs. For example, we recently released a VR scenario focused on a high-speed car chase and a patrol scenario involving police vehicles, where the speed and path of the suspect vehicle can be programmed and adjusted. This cutting-edge training program will not only enhance the skills of LAPD’s 50+ pilots but also serve as a model for other law enforcement units. A valuable feedback loop is continuously refining the training, making it more tailored, accessible, and realistic for airborne law enforcement.

We have flown other simulators and we feel that nothing replicates actual flight in an Airbus H125 in that last 50 feet like the Loft VR model does

As Kevin Gallagher, Chief Pilot of LAPD Air Support Division told to/published in Vertical Magazine

We look forward to setting new standards for pilot training in this crucial field, making highly immersive, realistic, and cost-effective training widely available. A big thank you to the whole Loft Dynamics Team who attended the event: Ted Rossi, Woody McClendon and Ray Lamas from the US team, along with Sven Tschudi and Nils Werder from Zurich.
